Conflict Between Leroy And Norma Jean In Vladimir Nabokov's Shiloh

“Shiloh”- Moral Approach A marriage requires a mutual bond between two mates who have the ability to understand each other, communicate effectively and try to solve problems together to lead a healthy married life. But, what happens if a marriage lacks all of these things? Ultimately, it ends and either the mates leave each other or they emotionally become isolated from each other. “Shiloh” is a story which depicts the troubles in the marriage life of Leroy and Norma Jean who confronts a problem of isolation after losing their child Randy, who died of a disease. “Shiloh” helps the reader to understand the consequences of a broken marriage life and helps to lead a healthy one. It also has the ideas which apply to both Leroy and Norma Jean. The ideas in the story are not acceptable to me because of the conflict between Leroy and Norma Jean. First, Shiloh helps us to understand the consequences of a broken marriage life. Norma Jean and Leroy are married who live in a small town of Kentucky. Their happy life becomes a sad one when their baby dies because of a disease. After Leroy has returned to home, he is engaged in his life. He is scared of driving the truck again because of the accident. Norma keeps on saying Leroy to do some job which does not require standing for long hours such as carpentry but Leroy neglects her. Norma keeps on abusing Leroy, but Leroy tries to be romantic with her. He hardly remembers his baby and smoke marijuana and joint. Although he possess some positive traits but still Norma cannot withstand him anymore. Norma wants to live alone as she is fed up of her husband’s attitude. She avoids her husband and has started taking class in the night to live alone as soon as possible. These all ideas show that there is lack of communication between two of
