The Sanctuary: The Table of Shewbread

The more we study the sanctuary God told the Israelites to build, the more we understand God's plan for the salvation of humanity. The table of shewbread was a very important piece of furniture within the Holy Place. Everything about its purpose and function has a spiritual application.
The table of shewbread's purpose was to hold twelve loaves of bread. The twelve loaves were to be placed in two rows of six, each loaf representing one of the tribes of Israel. The table served as a memorial reminder of God's presence in the lives of the Israelites. The historian Josephus indicated that the bread was unleavened.
