Sheryl Sandberg Lean In

“Lean In: What Would You Do If You Weren’t Afraid?” by Sheryl Sandberg addresses the life of a woman and how hard it can be to succeed in the world just because of yourr sex. She does this by comparing today from over fifty years ago when her grandmother “Girlie” was young for her later years. Many of her content also involve speeches from powerful women and men to back her examples up. This article has a few main points that you can discuss, under the premises of the wage gap, women standards, and how the world wants women to be portrayed. Sandberg uses a very well thought out and explained example of her grandmother from a child through her early years in adulthood to show you how gender inequality was in the past. She does this so you can …show more content…
What I mean by this is she doesn't really back it up with clear facts. The quote from her is “ Since more men aim for leadership roles, it is not surprising that they obtain them, especially given all the other obstacles that women have to overcome.”(Sandberg 648) in this quote she uses the word “obstacles” so strongly and gives such a deep meaning into it. You think the rest of at least this paragraph would support her use of obstacles, but, it doesn't she does not list any clear evidence of the obstacles. A book is the most that she gives to support this statement. I do not think this is an efficient piece of evidence for her to use. She says it is a “pattern”, a pattern lists more than one that repeats; she only gives one little example that barely affects women. You cannot base the aspiration of leadership roles in a children's book. The next statement she uses is very last generation. I do not know anyone who would say this this day “Professional ambition is expected of men, but is optional-or worse, sometimes even a negative-for women.’she is very ambitious’ is not a compliment in our culture.”(Sandberg 648). Me personally and everyone I know have not ever said that about a woman who is trying to reach her goal. Men can easily be too ambitious, most are. Being ambitious is just a step to success in leadership. To me success is always accepted and

I came to the conclusion that Women’s Voices Feminist Visions Classic and Contemporary Readings by Janet Lee and Susan M. Shaw is my strongest source to support my thesis- the history of gender inequality in America and the analysis of how factors such as ideology, ethnicity, race and sexual orientation have effected the process of closing the gender gap. The over all problem Lee and Shaw are trying to address in their writing is what women’s gender studies is by examining historical and contemporary writings. The readings were broken up into different chapters that focused on a specific gender topics. Of the thirteen chapters some of the topics I find useful for my research are, Sex, Power, and Intimacy, Women’s Work Inside and Outside the…

In “Lean in: What Would You Do If You Weren’t Afraid?” by Sheryl Sandberg the main topic is feminism based upon her point of view and research. Throughout her work she states the general struggles that come from being a woman in the world. In her work she does not seem very one sided on how to change what women are going through now but instead just saying what women do now that doesn’t work now a day. Before this Sandberg wrote “lean in” there had never been a feminist work on the New York Times Best Sellers list which was a big movement in feminist teaching, but was it good publicity for long time feminist?…
