I’m sure someone has asked them self what it would be like to go to a whole new school at one point in their life, especially if they did not like their school much. I certainly had, but I most definitely not expecting to. Going from a private school like Jackson Academy to a small public school like Puckett High School was a big change, and there were many contrasts between the two schools. The three most important differences between Jackson Academy were the size, dress code, and education. Jackson Academy was very different from Puckett.…

My first day of middle school was hell, I have always been good at school. My grades have never been bad and neither have my actions and or attendance. Probably from having a mom that is also a teacher. I look at that as a good thing though, watching kids just goof off and not come to school then high school rolled around and it was like I got to look down on them because they did not prepare for bigger and better things. School wasn't bad for me because it was hard, it was bad because i was always shy in school.…

As a teacher you might not have the opportunity to know your next year’s students that you will be teaching prior to the first day of school. This can be difficult when you are trying to prepare and develop a class that the students will enjoy. Questions that I would be wondering would be: Is this a well behaved class? Are…

I moved from San Diego, California to Derby, Kansas in the summer of 2017. I joined Derby Middle School, I hadn’t been to a real middle school before, even though I was in seventh grade. I was in online schooling with K-12 at home. I was new to multiple classes and teachers, assignments on paper, and I was new to a lot of people around me. When I joined Derby Middle School, I thought of it like nothing, thinking that no effort would get me through the year, I thought that my grades didn’t matter as long as I get C or higher.…

Middle school can be an odd and rough time for kids, as they change from being sheltered youth to responsible young adults. I failed miserably at handling that transition. The classes taught in middle school were supposed to be easy, especially now that I look in retrospect. Yet, I regularly brought home B’s and low A’s, at best, on my report card. I had barely challenged myself in middle school, if at all.…

Locked In! Elie Wiesel’s work, Night, published in 1958, demonstrates the struggles Jewish society and other minorities faced in order to live a life of liberty. I, myself, felt bound and trapped, not by iron doors, but by words. Although being open and outgoing can help communication growth, rudeness and unnecessary judgement can hinder one’s ability to socialize and express themselves.…

Education is one of the most valued components in society. It was not until the Reconstruction Era after the Civil War that educational reforms began. However, it is concerning that public schools in the 21st century still follow a framework developed in the early 1900s. The current society has drastically changed in their values, culture, and overall modernization in comparison to the society of the early 1900s. According to What Every Middle School Teacher Should Know, by Dave F. Brown and Trudy Knowles, the structure of an average school day was based off the average factory workday.…

I am not the same person I was in the beginning of this year, and I am definitely not the same person I was two years ago. When the first day of school arrived,I thought of all the negatives, “I’m not going to make any friends... The eighth graders are going to be so scary... etc,” but now I’m not scared. The Hillsborough Middle School has became a home to me. I have made new friends, and lost some old friends.…

In 2006, I began my journey at The Valley School as a first grade student. Moving over from my previous school, which I had attended from the time I was three until I was six years old, was fairly smooth. I had friends who made the switch with me and, being the social butterfly I was, making new friends was a breeze. In the first few years as a student, I saw Valley move into three buildings.…

While my years in elementary is more peaceful, middle school was terrible. The students in Middle school seemed to be aggressive based on what I saw. Bloody fights would occur in the school locker room, tobacco cans were found in bushes, and excessive writings were found in bathroom walls (either making jokes, teasing a student, or making fun of a teacher). Bullies were an issue to a few students, several bullies were ignorant enough to judge on what shoes a student is wearing, or the way how they dress. Knowing how rude the students are in middle school frustrated me, but I don’t not understand why a student care how another dresses, it’s none of their concerns, and yet, they still do it.…

The definition of a bully is someone who uses strength or power to harm/intimidate those who are weaker. People will always come across someone like this in their lifetime. Bullies can’t seem to just mind their own business, they tend to always judge other and/or put others down. Seventh grade at Taylor Middle School was a horrible time for me. High school is both daunting and menacing. Walking into the school on the first day, most underclassmen are too nervous to look into how teachers act and react to the students. As you go through the year, you start to figure out which teachers like sports, which ones are funny, and which ones do not allow being in the hall without a pass. My first day of seventh grade went as bad as any other middle schooler with the bad luck of going to a junior high attached to the high school.…
