Violence and destruction can never be quelled as it is inextricably linked to human nature. We as human beings wage war, and send the young, able bodied males to fight our battles while bureaucrats and wealthy individuals continue with their typical lives unaware of others’ misfortune and sacrifice; protected by laws and riches. Those who have the most life to live are sent to the front lines, in a way O’brien knew he would perish in the heat of a war he had no part in starting. A future Ivey league student being scooped up in the draft made next to no sense, young adults like him were the future of America, therefore; shipping him off to war would be sending the country's future into chaos and certain death. A government that could so easily strip him of his life and bright future had to be unjust.…

Many people argue that our world today is more destructive than in the past. It appears more evident through Internet, social media, and news stations. Destruction today thrives on the evils in society and the increased sense of anxiety about the world. The demolition of landmarks purposely, hostility in politics, and the genocide of various ethnic groups are all occurrences that appear in society. The many wars all over the world, the current refugee crisis, terrorist attacks caused by ISIS, the Taliban, Boko Haram, and even rogue killers like the San Bernardino shooters, all reflect a world confronting destruction on a daily basis.…

Summer is Good, School is Bad Naturally, the human population glorifies the idea of a simple and defined struggle between one easily adored front and one easily hated opposition. “The war of good and evil is mightiest in mightiest souls, and even in the darkest time the heart will maintain its right against the hardest creed”(Froude 13), yet beyond the darkness around the heart lies a depth and complexity previously unexplored, and behind this creed is a motive unbeknownst to the heart and it’s ever-favorable struggle. The acceptance of this particular idea reduces the strain on the imperfect mind and provides a motive for any action, enabling humans to focus and remain avowedly committed to their cause. Truly, the prophesied war between…

But when war is mentioned is this the only concern that comes to mind? The battlefield doesn’t only symbolize the issues of the government, but the struggles of the people. The reality is, no matter how strong we might be and how hard we might try to avoid its influence, none is able to escape the battlefield and its staggering moments. Whether you’re a child or an adult, warfare will always find us, and in equal amounts it will dominate our lives.…

Unnatural Born Killers Conflict is nearly synonymous with human existence. Every action and thought is centered on resolving conflict; conflict with nature, conflict with ourselves, and especially conflict with others. As history shows, conflicts between people are often solved with violence, and as a result war and the warrior were invented. With the centuries of warfare it would be reasonable to assume that humans have evolved to kill, yet the numbers of modern soldiers with psychological damage continues to skyrocket. I argue that people were designed to kill, however we cannot cope with the violence we create.…

Although some may believe that the world is becoming progressively less dangerous, they are wrong due to historical, economic and ethical reasons. Nations across the world are pending more on nuclear weapons and other military action. With as many moral and religious differences that are globally prominent, seemingly peaceful protest can turn into violent revolt. Many compare violence to all out war, but that isn’t a fair assessment.…
