Conformity can be defined in many ways depending on its context. Generally, it is known as a change in an individual’s behaviour in order to ‘fit in’ with the majority of people in a group/community. It surrounds acceptance and obedience as it cites to any behavior that transpires as an effect of other people’s impact. (Breckler, Olson, and Wiggins, Social Psychology Alive, 2006)
Sherif (1936) carried out an experiment wherein he placed participants in a dark room and asked them to watch a light and report how far the light moves known as the autokinetic effect. He conducted this study because he wanted to study how people were impacted by other people’s opinions.

A number of things in a society are unfair; for instance, in Saudi Arabia, women have to conform to the rules that deprive them of their basin human rights such as not being able to travel or work without the permission if a male legal escort, they can’t drive, women cannot wear what they want in public (they have to cover themselves with an ‘abaya’ and a hijab). 2.
