I believe Sheridan does abide by the academic integrity about plagiarism and that the consequence are liable, but at the same time they are not completely fair or understanding towards students. There are many things can affect the writing of a students work, There is no one that is the same so students of the college all have different thoughts and ideas, especially students have different knowledge that they may believe is common sense as well as the academic penalty that can affect the student. Student should receive a penalty for plagiarism but a 0% if the essay is not fully plagiarism is not fair if the student wrote most of the essay. The essay itself will receive a 0% , that can severely affect the student and their overall mark. Some student may already have knowledge on said topics, so to reference it would be difficult because they do not know that it should be referenced. When writing an essay people may remember previous information that they learned throughout their years so it could very well be the case that if a student did plagiarism it could have been a complete mistake because they had already learned the information and either thought it was common sense or truly believe in oneself that the idea is their own because of various reasons. Reason could include the amount of time that has passed, the background of a person and their own knowledge and experience with the topic of said essay or even simply not knowing that they had heard that before but forgot it was not their own idea.
