KEY FACTS:
Sherbourne Common improved the city life quality by redeveloping a brownfield site. The revitalization project consists of a stormwater treatment facility and a recreation park. Because this neighborhood is undergoing new developments, the Common is isolated and secluded, thus it felt empty and unoccupied throughout the visits. Building up the surrounding neighborhood would bring life and energy to the urban area.

The neighborhood lacked residential buildings that would bring visitors to the site; as a result, Sherbourne Common’s seclusion from the built environment effected its influx of visitors. It was designed to accommodate a variety of uses to meet the interests of residents, children, students, and employees. Next to the park is the Corus building and George Brown building. I observed the same results on both days. There was little activity going on at noon and at 5, otherwise, the park stood still. During the busy hours, the green space, sidewalks, and seating were the only spaces that were used well. Students played Frisbee, studied underneath the trees, or simply enjoyed the waterfront scenery. The splash pad, a large circular field, was designed to occupy the fountains and water jets that spray in the air. However, none of these water activities were in action.
