With a mission statement of improving the quality of life of individuals and families by compassionately serving their mental health, addiction, special education, and community support needs, Sheppard Pratt Health System works collectively to ensure the satisfaction of each client. Sheppard Pratt has goals that includes working toward recovery of health and quality of life for people they serve, to lead and continually seek and create more effective ways they could use in serving individuals, to put care in employing the highest standards of professionalism, with compassion, at all times and to give respect in recognizing and respond to the human dignity of every person. His role is to oversee all clinical services departments which include: social worker/counseling, discharge coordinators, emergency department, nursing, rehab staff, admission and health service with a purpose of overseeing all clinical budgets, clinical compliancy with the government agency, responsible for programing of the hospital. Rick is on call 24 hours in case of clinical emergencies.
As a Healthcare Management intern, I shadowed Rick and was given independent assignments to assist with hospital productivity. I participated with environmental safety rounds that ensured compliance according to state rules and procedures. One independent project I was given was to compose an electronic data base of resources for the discharge coordinators.
