There are positive and negative aspects to being an animal shelter veterinarian. The most difficult part of being an animal shelter veterinarian is dealing with the behavioral problems of the shelter animals. “Animal Behavior for Shelter Veterinarians and Staff” supports my view that animal shelter veterinarians are required to deal with serious animal aggression and trauma. Shelter animals tend to have more behavioral problems than animals brought into a regular veterinary clinic. It is absolutely necessary to socialize with animals and read their body language in order to be the most successful shelter veterinarian possible.
