The Big Picture
Throughout the use of the technologies of Printing and Compass, many historians reach a conclusion. The Chinese had invented many technologies, but their traditional values made them lose curiosity in the world. Confucianism only cared for social and moral traditions, not technological revolutions. The belief was strong in every way that it created long-lasting periods of peace, but was weak in a sense that it made its leaders over-arrogant and never try to improve to catch up with the rest of its peers. Certainly, China started off with the best technology, but while it enjoyed being the “superior kingdom”, the Europeans tried to grasp more and more territory under their control.
