Shelby Ledet is a special individual. At a young age she was faced with many obstacles that she was able to overcome. However, nothing or no one could prepare her for the hurdle , she would be expected to leap over in the future.
Shelby’s mother, Karly Dickinson, got pregnant at 17 with a beautiful baby girl. When Karly discovered she was pregnant, she was no longer dating Shelby’s dad, Ernie Chaission. They dated for only a few months. It was just a high school fling at least that’s what Ernie thought. When Ernie found out about Karly being pregnant he did not believe it. Maybe he was still just a kid himself.” When Shelby’s family moved back to Louisiana, Shelby realized the lifestyle for teenage children was way different in Louisiana than Oklahoma. She started attending South Terrebonne High as a freshman. Shelby’s first impression was these are some bad kids. It was a lot different then what she was used to but she eventually started making friends. Shelby stated, “I didn’t choose the best group of people to hang out with. A lot of my friends were whores and did a lot of drugs. I also hung out with a lot of boys who were always up to no good.” She started liking this guy who was a year older then her named Keith Meyers. Shelby eventually fell in love with him. He was no good from the day she met him. He always did drugs and was in trouble a lot at school. He influenced Shelby to start smoking marijuana and skipping school. Shelby’s mother started noticing Shelby was forming some bad habits and was hanging out with the wrong kind of people. Karly started being stricter on Shelby and it caused their relationship to go downhill. Shelby now could only hangout with certain people and couldn’t go sleep places on the weekends.
