Sally Burt is the kindest woman you could ever meet. Many take her kindness for weakness, because she tends to be very passive, but don’t let her fool you, because she does have a feisty side. She is fifty-six years of age, but has the vitality of a twenty-six year old. She has dark brown eyes that sparkle every time she speaks; her light brown skin glows ever so radiantly as the sun hits her; she has thick, brown, short hair that caresses her shoulders. Her loving smile can brighten up anyone’s day; she stands tall at 5’6, and walks proudly, while loving her voluptuous curves.…
Nikail Janet-Rose Francis is who I am. A young African-American by appearance but little does society know that the melanin in my skin represents more then just the "black community". Fortunately, my family has given me the privileged to witness successful, motivated, and accomplished individuals through their own actions. Becoming a doctor has been my aspiration since I was six years old and I asked my pediatrician "how can I be you?" Honestly, I did not originally want to attend the University of Florida.…
There are many challenges that you will face over the course of your life. If you choose to back down from your challenges instead of overcoming them, it can impact your entire life. Both the play The Phantom Tollbooth dramatized by, Susan Nanus and the Poem “The Seeker” by, J. Patrick Lewis are about overcoming challenges. The theme that is shared by these two pieces of literature is we must learn to overcome hardship with courage and persistence.…
First, let me say my mother's attorney, Laird Lambert told me in June of 2014 that Mary Ann planned this lawsuit in 2011. For what reason I do not know. I know Mary Ann was angry when I took my mother here. Mary Ann would not let my mother live with her.…
At age 11 I sit there in the living room in front of my television, listening to the popping of kernels as I anxiously snuggle up into my blanket, with my family, awaiting to watch our weekly Tuesday night show, “The Biggest Loser”. That show is how my love for health and wanting to study it started, therefore the article that most connected with me was “My Soul to Keep, My Weight to Lose” by Alice Randall. This story stood out to me because Randall does a good job capturing the many aspects that contribute to your weight journey. In this story, Randall gives the audience an insight on how losing weight is complicated yet rewarding.…
I also asked her if she views herself successful. She replied with “Honestly, I wouldn 't consider myself super successful. Most people could do the things I do if they wanted to. I am just a regular high school student who puts in a lot of hard work to accomplish and reach my goals. Any supposed success I have reached comes from this drive to work hard and reach my goals, so I can use my life to help others.”…
Susan Wolf’s argument that a meaningful life is one that is actively and at least somewhat successfully engaged in a project (or projects) of positive value is developed through a philosophical distinction between the perception of what is meaning of life and what constitutes as a meaningful life (797). Wolf classifies a meaningful life as one of positive value and active engagement, not to be confused with subjective criteria like personal happiness or contentment. The author distinguishes a meaningful life by elaborating on what she qualifies as a meaningless life. Wolf first characterizes a meaningless life as a life of “hazy passivity” (796). Individuals who are categorized into this bracket often indulged themselves in deeds that contribute…
High school came easy. The academics didn’t provide a challenge, I aced tests without having to study for them. Furthermore, extracurricular activities didn’t provide a challenge either, I played tennis on the varsity team and provided leadership for the speech and debate team. I surrounded myself with people who always said work hard will mold me into successful young man.…
I was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas; my environment shaped me to become someone responsible, an over achiever, and a determined young man. The people who had the biggest impact on me is the woman who gave me life, my father, and my community. My mother was already there for me even before I stared walking, she was there to comfort me when I fell on my knees. She was my first teacher, the one who taught me morals and set up my standards; whenever we had a family party and all of our thirty members were together, she will make me introduce and address myself to every single one and if ever forgot to say hi to someone she will just give me a look to make realize my mistake, and I will immediately go on to that person and say sorry for…
In Susan Wolf’s paper “The Meanings of Lives,” she discusses the qualifications of and the innate human yearning for a meaningful and fulfilling life. The foundation for her argument lies in her three criterion for meaning which include involvement, purpose, and success. She then continues her argument by explaining the opposite of each of these criterion as a stereotypical person. However, Wolf’s assertion suffers from being overly general in that it makes the assumption that all humans have access to the same resources and opportunities to perform the tasks required to be considered meaningful by her standards.…
I have never considered myself to be extremely fit. In fact, I would have laughed if someone told me two years ago that I could tramp for 7 hours a day for 4 days consecutively. This is exactly why I am incredibly proud of my Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award. The 47km tramp in Whanganui National Park was life changing because I was completely outside of my comfort zone as I climbed mountains after mountains with a group of people I barely knew at first. However, over the 4 days and 3 nights, I have learned to overcome any challenges and solve real-life crises.…
Lifestyle choices, such as nutritional eating, being physically active, and moderately drinking alcohol are all healthy choices. All of these things are considered health enhancing behaviors; which influence our physical, mental, emotional, psychological, and spiritual selves (Hayden 2009). The sole purpose of this paper is to reflect on my current health behaviors and choices, whether positive or negative to my health. In the world today many people have developed habits of unhealthy eating.…
