Sheila Mant Character Analysis

I will be evaluating the character of Sheila Mant; she is self-indulgent and rude.
First, she only talks about herself and how somebody said she should be a model. That is very self-indulgent because when you talk about how somebody said you should be a model it is like saying that you are the prettiest. It is selfish and cocky to say how somebody else thinks you are beautiful when you are on a date. She is saying that she knows she is beautiful and that she has other options, and by other options she means men. She is also very selfish because she never asked what the boy liked to do, and when the fishing topic came up she immediately said it was dumb. She is acting like she is just going on this date so she can go see some boys, and that he is just giving her a ride. It is not fair to the boy and she should know not to be so selfish. Not only is Sheila selfish but she is also rude because after the concert was over she went home with someone else. “All I really remember is her coming over to me once the music was done to explain that she would be going home in Eric Caswell’s Corvette”(Wetherell 5) It is tremendously rude to ride with somebody to the concert and ditch them right after it is over for a guy with a cool car. She would complain and whine about how her legs were sore from riding in the canoe. Sheila complained about how long it was taking to get there, when you ride with somebody the common courtesy is to act like you actually want to be there. It is rude if you are acting like you can not stand to ride with them any longer, and that is what Sheila was acting like. In addition to that, she was late when he came to pick her up, ten minutes late to be exact. When you are riding with somebody you should not make them wait for you, it is
