Sheet Of School Writing Analysis

Decent Essays
“There is absolutely nothing to write about, school is either too easy to have problems or useless to try to solve them,” I thought as I read my writing prompt. The sheet of paper stated that too write about a time that I worked to solve a problem at school. The only events I could manage to think of were when the class had down time and solved a bug in a program, which wasn’t really school related, and having to present a paper, but that topic had been used for a paper in 7th grade. To avoid being called out for not writing, I started writing random sentences until the idea came to me to write about having to think of a topic to write about. The only issue with that is that I still couldn’t write. There was no way I could write a paper

Getting the attention of kindergarteners can be hard sometimes, one way to grab their short attention is by telling them a secret. VanNess starts one of her first writing lessons by telling her students a secret and that secret is that “kindergarteners can write!” (574) When she tells her students they can write, she sees faces light up all around her. VanNess starts out the lessons with something simple and gives some examples of ways to use the word I. She models with the students and once they start to get comfortable with the word she releases them to do it on their own.…

The Process of Effective Writing Green (2011) states that APA and good writing is a long term process (p.69). The writing process has always been difficult for me. My writing has improved with the help of my instructors, online resources, and the college writing center. In order to write effectively at the graduate level, I will need to refer to the various writing resources that are made available. According to Green (2011)... graduate assignments need to reflect the appropriate level of critical thinking relative to the degree.…

English in college has been a very different class from what was described throughout the Calverton School experience. The readings themselves are similar to the International Baccalaureate program that I faced in high school; however the writing style which has been introduced is still somewhat foreign. The understanding for writing which I was accustomed to in high school has become blurred and foggy; it seems inadequate for this class. The realization that academic writing does not exclusively revolve around a set structure, such as a five paragraph essay, was difficult to accept; and continues to plague my writing. From a perspective standpoint, what has truly changed is the approach to writing is that writing is not trying to always…

I think that paraphrasing will be the hardest for me to avoid while writing. It seems that sometimes it is hard to write or summarize something that is so well written already. The way I will work around that is to stop and re-read what I am wanting to summarize, take a few important words out of the material I am reviewing and jot those down, then go back and write what is needed to complete my sentence or idea. Once I have completed my writing, I will review and make sure I have properly cited my work. Using the guidelines discussed in our “Read Section”, and following the instructions listed on how to source correctly should avoid paraphrasing mistakes and plagiarism.…

I would go through several different ideas until I came across one that would not be too challenging for me to complete. As I know that I am not the only student who has doubted their writing ability, I find it sad that instead of writing on a topic because we find interesting and relatable; we choose one based on its easiness because we’re afraid of the negative feedback from expanding ourselves. Writing should not be that difficult to…

Have You Developed a System of Writing That Works Most of The Time I really have not looked up different styles of writing let alone realized there was so many different types of it. My method is not necessarily a method per se, I have always for the longest time just wrote down as if I was speaking to someone. That to me was where my biggest praise came from, that I was able to write with such voice and was able to emulate my presence through the pages. When writing for an essay there is a period where I read and reread the question to gather all the information that is needed. Once the question is fully understood, I try to explain myself in full detail.…

By looking back at my writing experiences, I can tell that writing does not come naturally to me and find it to be a real challenge. I may think I did well while writing but in reality I did horrible. It takes me a while to write a paper then other people and there tends to be plenty of problems that try to slow me down. One of the hardest problems I have while writing is trying to find the right words to say. Every time I write I always take longer than anyone else because I always second guess what I just wrote and have to rewrite what I am trying to say.…

I almost never know how to start a essay and it’s introduction, and this time is no different. So far I have sat in front of my computer and procrastinated for about two hours. My writing process coming into junior year was quite flawed and would go moderately like this: I would try and start with some hook that at least sounded like it related to the topic I was assigned. I then added a thesis that did not sound like total trash that included exactly what I planned to discuss. As I wrote the rest of my essays, I would sometimes realize there was something I felt added to the argument’s appeal, and after adding it to the body paragraphs, I summed it up in a couple words and squeezed it into my thesis. That was about the maximum amount of revising I would do for my essays. My decently crafted essays contained simple diction with a few SAT words I remembered while writing thrown in awkwardly.…

We weren’t given a specific topic to write about and that’s what stumped me. I work better when I’m told what genre to write at least. After a couple minutes I started writing, not even coming up with an idea to write about. I didn’t even think about what I was writing, I just put the pencil to the paper and it was like my hand knew what to write without me thinking. It was as if I was in a trance.…

Sneaky foxes, obnoxious tragedies, and ACT English test prepping helped to shape me into the writer I am today. Walking into the classroom of my last high school English class, I distinctly remember the musty smell of teenage stress and overpriced Gucci perfume. I straightened out my blue suit shirt and said to myself “I am going to get an A in this class.” I sat by my ramen-loving friend in the back left corner of the room, opened my pink sparkly binder, and began imagining how fun it would be to read The Great Gatsby. However, as the class started and the annoying jeopardy school bell rang in my ear, all I could think about was the “fish n’ chips” lunch that I would be receiving in exactly fifty-three minutes.…
