In science terms, cloning is an ambiguous term. It could refer to cellular cloning, molecular cloning, embryo twining, or somatic cell nuclear transfer. Ian Wilmuit said that his cloning procedure was ineffective because of 277 embryos, only one survived for a long period of time. Stem cells found inside the bone marrow and umbilical cord of an embryo can help an injured body grow new cells. Gearhart and Thompson were able to make human embryos into tiny “stem cell factories”. The Advanced Cell Technology of Massachusetts made differentiated human cells revert back to its primordial state by fusing them with cow eggs. President Clinton and the National Bioethics Advisory Committee condoned any attempts of making children from hybrids. Five years later, the National Bioethics Advisory Committee concluded that the government should fund research on stem cells created from human embryos. Congress did not accept this recommendation. Fraudulent cases of cloning has scared humans from the idea of identical babies. In 2001, researchers began using adult stem cells that are found throughout the body. Researchers discovered that many organs and tissues contain cells like stem cells, called precursor cells. President George W. Bush gave a conference speech on bioethics saying that research could be federally funded using spare embryos on 60 stem cell lines. Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas …show more content…
It is still not permissible to withhold necessities to sustain life, such as oxygen and nutrition/hydration, even when the above criteria is met. Appropriate amounts of morphine per body weight is considered acceptable, as long as a higher dose is not used. There are times it is compassionate to pray that God ends an individual’s sufferings. The third layer is God’s mercy to on occasion provide a quick end to life if a person is suffering. The ability to distinguish what actions or inactions are permissible by man and what must be left to God is important to Jewish medical
