The components consist of a Central processing unit, a Server and a Network. Central processing unit, referred to as CPU is the main processing component of a computer system (O 'Brien & Marakas, 2011, p. 93). The CPU makes every click or keystroke possible, it handles and processes all of the instructions given. Many will refer to the CPU as the brains of the computer. The Server is a device on a network that performs different functions. Mainly, a Server performs as a storage unit for files. Lastly, A Network contains serval computers or handheld devices sharing a wireless or wired connection. Having a Network is what allows employees ease of sharing files between different computers (Kilgore, Hardware, …show more content…
What makes this all possible is our network connection through Ethernet. Ethernet gives our office the ability to simultaneously exchange and save documents to and from computers throughout the office and to print and/or scan documents at different locations as well. Once again, this gives the convenience of not having files confined to one computer. Furthermore, Ethernet offers three speeds to choose from, 10/100/100, Ethernet devices run at different speeds depending on their design and age. Older model equipment built more than 10 years ago will run at 10Mbps, devices built in the last ten years run at least 100Mbps. Generally, the speed determines how much data can be transferred throughout the network. The network devices are connected together via network switches that forward packets of data to the correct destinations. Switches and devices are able to auto detect the highest speed that the device or switch is in connection with to support and adjust to run at that speed (Marlatt, Hardware, 2015). All computer servers at Shedd-Frasier are capable of running at 1000Mbps (1Gbps). The printers are capable of running at 100Mbps (Marlatt, Hardware,
