Shayne Gostisbehere: A Brief Biography

Shayne Gostisbehere was born on April 20, 1993 in Margate Florida. Growing up in Florida, hockey wasn’t the biggest sport. With the weather being fair year round, it wasn’t very appealing to be inside a cold ice rink for most. But Shayne had always had this passion for hockey. At a young age, he showed interest in the sport. His parents showed him baseball, football, soccer, but they never really tried to push him to hockey. But he always told his mom and dad that he was going to be just like Jaromir Jagr, who he idolized growing up. Shayne joined a local team at the age of eight after his family moved to Connecticut. Hockey was much larger there than Florida for obvious reasons.

Gostisbehere received a lot of praise for his play. Most say that if it wasn’t for him, The Dutchmen would not have even made the frozen four championship. On April 15, 2014, Shayne was drafted in the 3rd round by the Philadelphia Flyers, then soon after signing an entry level contract with the team.
