Shawn's Life-Personal Narrative

The arrival of winter was soon to be here. The sky had opened up to a new luster with the disappearance of the already fallen leaves. As, Shawn, drove down the country road he was more aware of all his surroundings. He grew up in this small city and knew he would stay there for all time. He knew each landmark on this location. This region is where he grew up and created all his memories. Three weeks before, Shawn, a twenty-four year old man, finished his fourth semester at the university. He enjoyed college the college experience, join a fraternity, getting to party, playing pickup basketball in the rec, and the whole lot that is going along with college. Although Shawn was not ready to leave his home again; he knew he had a commitment to do his best. Shawn's priest came to wish him well before him leaving. This was such a comfort to Shawn, with a quick confession; he was on his way, with hopes of returning in two years. Shawn's new mission took him deep into Russia country, far away from his comfortable home. Shawn met with many of his friends from basic training; friendly faces of which he greatly welcomed in this strange new land. There were many, many new faces of strangers he would soon come to know as a friend. Many battles were fought, with no Australian man or woman to yet lose their life. There were many tense times in this foreign land; tension of battles to be fought; lands unknown; and homesickness. Homesickness like Shawn had never experienced before. Comfort came to Shawn in letters from home and the thought of his priests last comforting words the morning before his last departure. Soldiers woke to screaming sirens and loud shots of gunfire early Sunday morning. The day was so early; the skies were still midnight black. Shawn and his fellow soldiers scrambled to get their guns and fighting gear. They were caught somewhat off guard in the early morning hours. They fought until late afternoon, just before the midnight sky returned. Shawn was fighting thoughts of defeat when the invading troops began retreating.
