“If I were Shannon Miller this would not happen,” I often thought as I positioned my body onto the bar. I hated heights and even being a few feet in the air on the highest uneven bar unsettled me. It seemed as if I were on the peak of a mountain top and my oxygen supply was thinning out. Each exhale made me dizzier and before you know it, I would be climbing down in a hurry, anxious to see my score even though I knew it would be low. I hated the fear I felt about practicing on the bars and how I believed that I would end up like my older teammate Chanel, who recently had surgery on both of her knees due to an awful fall in the last competition.…

    Life In Motion Summary

Misty Copeland is a woman who defied all the odds and ended up becoming the first African-American principal dancer for the American Ballet Theatre. In her autobiography Life in Motion, Copeland depicts her life as a young woman before her days of ballet until recently. This book particularly stands out as a commendable autobiography because Misty writes this book as a story a form of empowerment to “the little brown girls” who do not think that they are able to fight despite all of the odds. Other reasons why this book stands out in the autobiographical realm is the metaphor “life in motion” as well as Copeland’s characterization of characters such as Cindy. One of the things that stood out this book is her consistent repetition of the sentence…

“It’s the first permanent museum exhibit to trace mammal evolution – from the extinction of large dinosaurs to the rise of humans – within the context of epochal changes in the Earth’s geology and climate.” That is the summary Dr. John Harris, lead curator for the Age of Mammals exhibit at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, gives about the exhibit. While to some, this description may seem vague, the museum sees it as a way of focusing on “telling a more complicated, ‘big picture story’ of mammal life” (NHM.org, Age of Mammals). However, in choosing to look at the bigger picture, the Age of Mammals exhibit loses organization and key details of evolution. For the most part, the exhibit displays Dr. Harris’ message well.…
