Barack Obama once said, “The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope”. (“Barack Obama, Goodreads”) Shawn Grim and Rudy Ruettiger were both young men that wanted to prove someone or something in their life wrong. Shawn wanted to break the stereotype of the people in Appalachian Mountains. He also wanted to be the first in his family to get a college degree. Rudy wanted to prove his family that his dream will be reality.
Even though these two guys had many similarities they also have differences. At one point of their lives they were both homeless Shawn lived in his car. Though a bit of high school and the small time he was in college. He had a hard time because he would have to go to his friends houses just to take a shower and clean his clothes. Shawn was on the real team and could have been a starter. But Rudy was on the practice team and wasn't on the official team. Rudy never officially played a game up until his last one although it was only for less than a minute he still sacked the quarterback and was carried off the field. Rudy accomplished his dream of proving people wrong and shawn failed by dropping out of college only after 8 weeks.
Rudy and Shawn are both very hard working guys the end results proved that Rudy had more heart for the game and the dedication after overcoming all his obstacles like his learning disability and everyone that said he couldn't have done it. Even though Shawn came close to accomplish his goal he did not.
