I should be selected for the Shawn Carter Foundation Scholarship because I have extreme financial need. I was raised by a single mom with no help from my father or his family. My mom is the end of her generation, so her parents are gone and I have no family to help pay my tuition. I have overcome my learning disabilities and have been successful in my high school career. I am a contributing member to my community and I feel I can make a difference. I am focused. I got into my top choice school as a direct admit into the nursing program. I was awarded money from Xavier for my academic achievements but I have a big gap to close. My mom is not in a position to take on a parent loan to pay for school.
