Have you ever almost died doing something you love? well snowboarder Shaun White, known as the Flying Tomato is a two time Olympic gold medalist. He has also won multiple Winter X Games medals.

Shaun white had an exciting childhood. He was born on September 3 1986.
He started snowboard at age 6. His parents moved him from skiing to snowboarding because they thought it would keep him out of trouble. Shaun was born with a heart defect that could have affected his whole life.

When Shaun was born he was born with a heart defect called tetralogy. That heart defect gave him 3 open heart surgery. He also had one for surgery later in his life. He's very lucky because it is a very rare heart defect. Most people are not at all the athletic
