Being ashamed of one’s body can lead to medical conditions. People spend a lot of time comparing themselves to others. According to ‘Do I look Fat in This?’ by Sharon Kirkey, “Women who overhear others engage in fat talk are more likely to fat talk themselves and to experience heightened body dissatisfaction.” This shows individuals who are surrounded around people who have dissatisfied with their body are more likely to experience it themselves. Fat talk is a conversation with another person describing negative thoughts about themselves. Fat talk increases the rates of getting anxiety or eating disorders. The reason is individuals will start talking about it excessively which will make them look at everything in a different perspective.

A psychotherapist is a trained profession that helps individuals get through the problems they are facing with low self-esteem and body image. According to Too Much Mass by Luke Lyons states, “The best way to treat the disorder is to seek help from trained professionals.” A psychotherapist treatment will help enhance on their self confidence. There are programs and websites that people dealing with body image can sign up for. The trained professionals will help you talk it out and make you feel better about yourself.
Parents should display positive body image about themselves because they are role models to their kids. If the parents are sub conscious about their body most likely their kids would be too. Kids Tune into Body Talking by Kristen Thompson states, “To think my preschooler might be sub concious about her own size makes me profoundly sad. But the truth is, she is self conscious. And i think it’s my fault.” Parents have a big impact on their child lives.
This is important to solve because people are focusing on losing weight which can lead to eating disorders, anxiety problems or anger. Parents shouldn’t be telling their kids about their body size or influencing them to lose weight. Another to solve this problem is by talking to a phsycotherapist. They will help you talk it through and gain self
