I am told all the time that I am “just in high school” or I am “just a teenager”. Even though I do not have direct say on any laws being passed, I still have the power to speak up. This can be done by writing letters to state officials and governments explaining why laws for overfishing are needed. There are also many organizations that create petitions to raise awareness and stop problems such as overfishing. In 2006 a documentary called “Sharkwater” came out. This documentary was about a team of biologists and filmmakers who took it upon themselves to stop the injustices of illegal overfishing. This inspired me to learn more about what I could do to stop this problem. Since then I have signed petitions on specific overfishing issues such as shark finning. I was able to use my voice to stand up for what I know is right. I believe that if government officials understood the significance of this issue they would make it a priority to solve the problems of overfishing. I know I have the power to make a difference and allow others to understand the importance of stopping overfishing. Getting a good college education and majoring in marine biology is another way I can make a difference. I strongly believe that knowledge is power and with power I will be able to make an impact on stopping overfishing. I look forward to being able to help make a difference and inform the community at my future
