The Great White Sharks along with a few other marine organisms such as stingrays, chimaera and skates are unique as their skeletons are made of cartilage rather than bone. Majority of Great Whites can measure up to a whopping 15 feet (4.6 metres) with an average weight of 1,500-2,450 pounds. Females tend to grow larger than males and some specimens have been recorded exceeding 20 feet (6 metres) and weighing up to 5000 pounds. The Great White has a slate, grey upper body which aids them when trying to blend in with rocky coastal sea floor and their name derives from their white underbellies. Their powerful tails can propel them through the water at speeds of 24km/h due to their extremely streamlined, torpedo shaped bodies.…

Shark culling is a state government implemented policy in which sharks within the vicinity of a beach can be legally killed through shark nets or drumlines or a combination of the two. Drumlines are unmanned buoyant drums anchored one kilometre of a beach's shoreline. In between the drums are ropes with hooks. Drumlines are baited so that if a shark is swimming in the vicinity of a beach it would be attracted to the bait and not humans. Each state has different policies on drumlines depending on their state government.…

Dog owners know that as much as it is the ‘man’s best friend’ the dog will growl if it is feeling aggressive. Whales and their trainers are the same way Chuck Tompkins describes that trainers are taught and trained to look out for behaviors in the whales and to act accordingly. He says if there is any signs of sexual behaviors, whale and whale social interactions, or tense, odd behaviors the trainers know to stay out of the water and to let the animals be animals (Tompkins, 2). Aggression is not out of the norm for these animals, even in the wild. Rakes are teeth scratches that can be found on whales that are made by any toothed whales.…

Red-Tailed Black Shark is a stunning fish, with a velvety- black body, a bright red tail, and a lovely streamlined shape. If you are going to keep a Black Shark in your aquarium, and I highly recommend that you do, only get one, because they get very aggressive towards others of their species. When they are younger they are relatively harmless, but as they got older and bigger they can get very cantankerous. You need to give your Black Shark plenty of hiding places to choose from, like a flowerpot on its side, or some rocks or bogwood it can hide behind, because Black Sharks do need their own space, and get very unhappy when they can't find a place to call their own. I have a shipwreck in my aquarium (an old ship made by my husband from a…

In other countries there are restrictions or it is allowed. When shark finning is restricted in different countries there are still plenty of loopholes allowing fishermen to continue their work. With these loopholes it allows fishermen to land sharks in full so they can get away with collecting the fins. Shelley Clarke, a part of the Oceanic Fisheries Program and secretariat of the Pacific Community discovered data in 2009 that “finned sharks accounted for 43% of sharks that were recorded by observers. In 2010 less finning was recorded but shark retention (keeping dead sharks in whole form) increased such that overall mortality remained stable” (Clarke).…

The sharks were devouring men left and right. About 100 men a day were eaten by the creatures. The water was bloody, the men were tired, all hope had been lost. There was no sign of rescue "You were constantly in fear because you'd see 'em (sharks) all the time. Every few minutes you'd see their fins - a dozen to two dozen fins in the water,” says Michael Cox, a survivor of the attack.…
