Family/Living Situation: At the time of her arrest, Shareena Bishop was living independently on Milwaukee’s south side. She obtained and maintained this apartment utilizing her monthly SSI payments. The apartment was obtained this year, while it appears that Ms. Bishop may have been approved for SSI in 2011.
Born in Chicago and moving to Milwaukee around age 4, Ms. Bishop is the middle child of three children. She spent about a year of her young life in Chicago with her father. She reports he still lives there and she “[talks] to him sometimes.” She has infrequent but, reportedly, positive interactions with her older brother. Bishop as having the following diagnoses as of March 2011:
• Bipolar disorder, mixed severe without psychotic features
• Personality disorder, non-specific with paranoid and antisocial traits
Historical documents from the BHD and Rogers also identify Ms. Bishop has having oppositional defiant disorder, intermittent explosive disorder, depression, and PTSD.
Upon her arrest and housing in the CJF, Ms. Bishop was initially placed on suicide watch and shares that she struggled with her emotions. Ms. Bishop believes that she was verbally and emotionally violated by the arresting officer, and she’d endured so much bullying in her life that she was “fed up.”
Ms. Bishop has a serious history of suicidal and homicidal ideations. She says she has attempted suicide no less than seven times (pills, jumping off bridges, ran in front of a car, and electrocution). She states that it is during those times that she remembers her friend, and feels that she is letting the friend down, but also wants the peace that would come with
