Shaquille Rashaun O’Neal was one of the most dominant and famous basketball players in the NBA. Born on March 6, 1972 in Newark, New Jersey, he began and continued helping his teams to win Championships and Olympic gold, all up until the year, 2011, which was his retirement year. In Shaq’s early years, he was an athlete, actor and musician, who graduated from Cole High School in San Antonio, Texas and enrolled at Louisiana State University. During his rookie season of Professional Basketball with Orlando Magic, he starred in the TOP 10 in scoring, rebounding, blocks and shooting percentage. He is also the first player in NBA history to be titled “Player of the Week” in his first week in the league. Back in 1996, Shaq had signed a contract with $120 million with the Los Angeles Lakers and during that same exact year, he tagged along in the United States’ Dream Team and assisted in winning gold at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia. …show more content…
In 06-07, Shaq reached his career milestone, scoring his 25,000th point. Traveling to the Midwest, joining the Cleveland Cavaliers, he averaged 11.5 PPG and established an average of 12 points and 6.7 rebounds each game, also stating the he had become the oldest NBA player in sport’s history. June 1, 2011 was Shaq’s last year of playing Basketball as he announced his plans for retirement from the NBA on his Twitter page. After retiring, he became an NBA analyst for Turner Network Television, attending a role that has him seen working alongside other legendary NBA players such as; Charles Barkley, Ernie Johnson, and Kenny Smith on Inside the NBA.
