As an author and a member of the British Parliament from 1969-74, Jeffrey Howard Archer’s career is reflected in his fiction and his fiction has influenced his career (“Archer” 21-2). by Jeffery Archer is a mystery novel about an FBI agent who must figure out who is planning to assassinate the President. The story starts out with Edward Kennedy about to be the 40th President of the United States on Tuesday, January 20th in 1981. Then the setting jumps to March 3, 1983. Nick Stames, the head of the Field Office of the FBI, receives a call that a man named Angelo Casefikis wants to talk to the FBI. Marc Andrews and Barry Colvert go to the hospital to see Casefikis. He says that while waitering on February 24th he overheard a group of men, including a senator, discussing their plans to assassinate the President on March 10th. While at the hospital Andrews falls for Dr. Dexter, she later makes trouble for him. The two agents head back to the office. Andrews is told to write up a report and then go back to the hospital to protect Casefikis. When he returns to the hospital he passes an Orthodox Priest on the elevator and then discovers that Casefikis is dead, when he tries to phone Stames he is told that he and Colvert died in a car accident. The following day Andrews calls the director, H. A. L. Tyson, of the FBI for help. The Director tells Andrews to figure out which senator is responsible, so Andrews heads to the Library of Congress to investigate. The following day Andrews goes to talk to Father Gregory, the Orthodox Priest, who tells him that he never went to the hospital because a man called and told him Casefikis was released. After researching many senators, the Director tells Andrews that on March 3rd the senator had a committee; this narrows the senators down to five who went to the gun-control bill committee, one of whom is Dr. Dexter’s father. On the day of the assassination the Director talks to many people to prepare for the worst. Andrews car is bombed, luckily Dr. Dexter drives him to the office, nearly escaping death.
