Shakira's Influence On Latin American Culture

There are many different countries and territories that make up Latin America. There are a total of 22 different territories and countries. Some of the most well known countries that people often associate with Latin America are Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador and Cuba. Some places that don’t come to people’s minds as often or as easily are Guadeloupe, Martinique and French Guiana, however these three comprise Latin America as well. Because there are many places associated with Latin America one can see how cultures and people blend. People are exposed to many different types of pop culture, music, media and learning. These elements influence how they think and live. One Latin American musician who was exposed to many different cultures and genres of music was Shakira. One year for Christmas she asked for a typewriter so she could write down what she wanted to. She understood and loved the art of poetry. She was very good at it from a relatively young age. According to an article written by Biography.com, Shakira wrote her first song when she was only 8 years old. Shakira wasn’t just fast at writing her own songs she was also incredibly fast as a child in school. Shakira graduated from high school at the young age of 15. Most people graduate from high school when they are 17 or 18 years old, not Shakira, she did it when she was 15. According to an article published by The Times of India, Shakira even went to college and took a History of Western Civilization course at UCLA. Even after she was “successful” she decided to continue to educate herself and attend university for a little while. Learning and being educated are two concepts Shakira feels strongly about. These facts, her love of writing and her love of learning, highlight Shakira’s zest for life something that is very apparent in her
