Her talent was spotted by one of the producers and gave her a chance to become a star by recommending her to audition for Ciro Vargas. She impressed the talent scouts and won a contract for three albums right after her thirteenth birthday. It sounds amazing that a thirteen year old could accomplish the types of dreams every girl would fantasize about. But, she made her dreams real. Her first two albums did not turn out as well as Shakira hoped for. She claimed that they were poorly produced and designed out of her own creative power. She then released an album in 1996, called Pies Descalzos, which translates to"bare feet”. It sold more than 3 million copies. The album featured her style of sound, a mix of Latin, rock and Arabic music. Her record, Dónde Están Los Ladrones? That was released in 1998, (Which translates from spanish to english as "Where are the thieves?"), got to the top of Billboard's Latin charts. Not long after, Shakira won her first Grammy Award!
