I am Shakira Nelson, a social work intern within the Substance Abuse Treatment Program (SATP) at the Fayetteville Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The Substance Abuse Treatment Program provides intensive outpatient treatment options to Veterans, and within the program the staff includes four licensed clinical social workers, three of whom are licensed clinical addiction specialist, program coordinator, psychiatrist, and nurse.
The Veteran is a 69-year-old Vietnam Era Veteran who is 90% service connected related to the medical conditions Arteriosclerosis, Diabetes Mellitus, an eye. He was seen in SATP during walk-in hours, which are 0830-1500. The Veteran is not new to the VMAC, but he is new to the Mental Health Service Line and the Substance
