The only thing you know will happen in the unforeseeable future is death. It might be in an hour, in a day, a month, a year, a century. We all want to be remembered when we die, however after a certain period of time, it is inevitable that people will move on. It might sound cynical or cold, but it’s true. Some people will be remembered for hours, some for days, and some for centuries. "Out, out-" illustrates this view of death with the death of a child. The child has to work long hours daily. One of those days, he cuts his hand off accidentally with a saw and proceeds to die. After a very short amount of time, he is forgotten.
