To commence, Shafrira “Shafi” Goldwasser was born in 1958 in New York City to Israeli parents. Shortly, years after, Goldwasser’s family decided to return to Israel where she then acquired her primary through secondary academic education. During her high school years, Shafi became interested in physics, literature and mathematics. Upon finishing her schooling in Israel, Shafi decided to move back to the states and begin her college education at Carnegie Mellon University, where she earned her bachelor’s in the department of mathematics. Furthering her academic education Goldwasser went on to achieve her masters and Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science at Berkeley University.
