Shaffer On Education

Decent Essays
My first grade teacher, Mrs. Shaffer, was one of the biggest influences on me becoming a teacher. She was loving, caring, fun, never yelled or raised her voice, helped me to read, and made me feel safe in her classroom. Ever since being in Mrs. Shaffer's class, I have always wanted to be a teacher. I love working with children. Throughout the years I have had some amazing mentors who have also influenced and guided me through the profession.
I’ve been in education for more than 8 years. These years include, pre - kindergarten, kindergarten, second grade, and assistant principal. Currently I am a second grade SEI math teacher. If I were to pick my greatest contribution to the profession, I would have to say it would be working as an assistant

My favorite teacher was Alisa Fliss. Alisa Fliss was my 10th grade English teacher. She brought a passion for words, literature, and poetry not only into the classroom but into the students hearts as well. Coming from a school where we weren't expected to pass, much less enjoy school, her class was the one class we all anticipated going to, and the one class we all reluctantly had to leave at the end of the day. Not only did she make learning enjoyable to a bunch of kids who would rather skip out of school and hang out at the mall, but she truly did believe in you, your capabilities, and your potential to do anything or be anyone you wanted to be.…

A memory I have from Miss CC’s class was Jay’s reaction when he ate the really sour lemon after we learned how to garnish. Another memory from Miss CC’s class was when Mackenzie Wallace said that the “Protein Guy’s” muscles were bigger than her future. A memory that I have from a different class was when Mr. Lord pretended to be his son throwing a fit and started to roll around on the floor. A memory with my family was when I got my new Paint horse, Cherokee. At my 13th birthday party, my really small friend, Aleah, was holding onto a baseball bat.…

One teacher that I think positively impacted me to become more mature was Ms. X because when I used to be childish and immature, she told me that if I keep acting like that I will not get anywhere in life. I should act more mature so I can do something great with my life. She helped me get out of some trouble because I got in trouble for talking and she told me not to talk and act better. She gave me advice about stuff whenever I needed it. I didn't get into trouble that much because she helped me act better and avoid trouble.…

I vaguely remember anything from my elementary days being the fact that I am very forgetful. I do remember that my first friend in school was Keia Smith though, we met in Pre-K she was the new kid there and I decided to extend the olive branch. There were a lot of incidents that occurred in elementary that I do recall. For instance, in kindergarten me and a couple of other girls got in huge trouble for thinking it would be a good idea to cut in one another's hair.…

To me, working as a teacher assistant is very important. It brings a lot of interesting challenges and the idea of working with children to help develop their natural skills is what I look forward to. Working with young children is significant because I think this is the age that they are the most impressionable so teaching them at this stage is very important. During my college summer breaks I had the opportunity to be employed by the Briner Christian School of Academic Ellienence and Exposure. My duties involved lesson preparation, classroom management and a wide range of children’s learning activities.…

Since my sophomore year in high school, I 've been able to be in a kindergarten classroom under the guidance of the same teacher, Mrs. Cookie Bodie. Through this experience I 've been able to watch her attitude be positive towards herself, those around her, and the subject matter she was teaching. She portrayed the characteristics of a Level 3 teacher, and I am very thankful for the time I was able to learn from her. The most outstanding thing I learned from her was classroom management: to never back down while under fire, and always remember what your goal is for the class. The difference she has made in my life through teaching is one I will never forget.…

Whenever I am asked who inspired myself to become an educator there is always one person that comes to my mind, Mrs. Toloskiewich. She was my second grade teacher at Oakwood Elementary School. Mrs. Toloskiewich was the teacher that made some kind of impact of each and every one of her students whether it was helping them find their talents and skills, or like myself, showing them their true calling in life. It was in her classroom at the young age of seven, that I made the decision to become a teacher that was going to change lives, and I give all of my thanks to her.…

One of the best moments of my life was during a mission trip I was on with Matt and Trish, as well as the remaining youth group. For one week we traveled down to Knoxville, Tennessee where we helped various organizations and groups with building offices, volunteering at homeless shelters, and the moment that transformed me as a person. This was called “Under the Bridge.” What happens is, multiple homeless shelter organizations from around the city and state come together for one night and, under a highway overpass, they bring food, clothes, and necessities for the homeless community. The most vivid image I have from this experience was witnessing a man in ripped clothing and a hunched posture walk up to the speaker where Christian music was…
