Decent Essays
Shadowing Dr. Ramsey Hammoud was the most interesting and rewarding experience I have ever had. I have seen patients suffering from osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and broken bones. Dr. Hammoud explained to me every disease he encounters in his clinic. He used X-ray to show me the damaged bone or cartilage. One of the eye-opening cases I encountered during my time shadowing was a female patient suffering from arthritis in her knee and she needed a knee replacement but she did not have an adequate health care insurance nor was she financially able to pay for her

When I was shadowing an osteopathic family medicine physician, Dr. Anthony Lopresti, I came to appreciate how the philosophies of osteopathy coincides with my own. Through many patient encounters, I learned of the combination of prescribed medications and musculoskeletal manipulation that enhances the body’s natural process to heal on its own. My passion in osteopathic medicine was confirmed when I comforted a distressed patient which made me realize how important patient satisfaction was to me. During my high school years, I recall working in the fields during vacation breaks with my mother harvesting tomatoes, picking up cherries, and pruning grape vines.
