For my shadow study, I observed a student from 8-12 at Metcalf Laboratory School. This student had short brown hair, was wearing a gray sweatshirt, and was smaller than his peers. The first class that the student attended was Health, and since the class was still relatively new due to it being a new quarter, he seemed to be adjusting well. At the beginning of class, the student was attentive, and as I was paying attention, I noticed that he enjoyed talking to his peer who sat next to him. The other thing that I noticed was that he sat in the front and was paying attention to the teacher during class time compared to his peers who were not as attentive to the teacher. When the pledge of allegiance was going on, I noticed that he did stand and …show more content…
For me, observing gym class was a tad more difficult due to having to pick my student out among the various students in their uniform. This took me a little bit, but I eventually did locate my student. In gym, since the students were playing volleyball, my student found one and shot it off the bleachers at the beginning. The gym was comprised of two gyms connected with one being larger than the other, and within a few minutes, the gym teacher made half the students go into the other gym. Since I was not able to locate my student for the first few minutes, I was worried that he went to the smaller gym, but luckily for me, I managed to find him due to him playing volleyball right in front of where I was observing. Once the student played volleyball for a few minutes, the student put the volleyball away and went to sit in a circle due to the teacher providing directions. In the circle, he looked around at the other students while listening to the teacher. He was attentive and was listening to the rules of the game while getting his peers to pay attention as well. I noticed that he was small in stature and seemed to not be as developed as his …show more content…
At the beginning of class, a video was playing, and my student stood up and sat on his desk in order to watch the video. He put his sweatshirt on and pretty much had the same attitude. He talked to his peers, and I also noticed that he had an AB ABC schedule due to the teacher mentioning it. At first, he sat down and was attentive, and after he did this for a little bit, he got up to get supplies for a nametag since an intern was observing the class for four weeks. He asked the teacher if he could use a different version of his name, but the teacher said no to him due to knowing that the student was just trying to be funny. While the intern was giving a brief introduction, he was attentive and did not know what a dab was when the students asked her to do it. He continued to pay attention and asked for a salute. I noticed that he seemed to have more respect for this teacher and was more comfortable talking to him. After the intern spoke, he took notes and talked to his peer for a little bit. The teacher jokingly said that the student was rude and told him to calm down due to the student being over excited. After this, my student raised his hand and asked why the teacher was not able to share his opinion in regards to politics and also asked about the voting age. By asking questions, he showed me that he did like social studies more than the other subjects. After he

We, the students of Mr. Roman Reshetov, would like to issue a formal complaint, as his teaching skills are inadequate to teach an Honors Chemistry class. To begin with, Mr. Reshetov’s time management is lacking. Extended periods of time are being spent teaching small portions of the curriculum while other portions are not even mentioned. Students are forced to teach themselves vast amounts of material that sometimes have not ever been mentioned in class. Also, in many cases, students are studying the wrong things because Mr. Reshetov does not provide adequate information as to what is expected to be known.…

His name was Carlos and, saying his name to me was the only word he said in class for the duration of the time that I had been in the classroom. Carlos is young boy whose parents are completely Spanish. I was told by Mrs Varvil, that even at parent conferences only the mother has understand of what is being said and is able to partially converse. Fred Bowen states that “... you don’t know at age 8 or 10 or even 12 who will be the best athletes”(Bowen). Although it is true that a player’s skill may not be clear while they are young, Kyle Elmendorf, an experienced high school Basketball coach argues the other side- “... I explain that playing time will not be equal among players” (Elmendorf). Before each season, he writes a letter to each one of the parents explaining that their child’s playing time will be determined by skill alone. “The letter also states that if they are interested in getting the most playing time-or equal playing time- high school sports may not be for them” (Elmendorf).…

This shows an exaggeration of how school systems do very little to hold students accountable for their own actions. Instead of sending him to the counselor's office to atleast try to figure out why he/ she is misbehaving the way they are in class to see what can be done to prevent future problems teachers come up with silly disciplines that only makes behaviour worse. Then they come back to school the next day and continue the same behavior they had the previous…

When the students finally settled in to the classroom, Mrs. Geisheimer gave the students a Do Now. The way she described the assignment was confusing because she told the students to do the right side of the page, but when showing the class the paper, she was pointing to the left side of the page.…
