To elaborate, in page 79 of The Alchemist, the caravan camel driver explains, “The land was ruined, and I had to find some other way to earn a living. So now I'm a camel driver. But that disaster taught me to understand the word of Allah: people need not fear the unknown if they are capable of achieving what they need and want.” Since the camel driver lost everything he owned, a number of obstacles hurdled towards him, such as an aftershock trembling beneath him, if any of his neighbors or family were badly hurt, and more importantly, the problem of sheltering and feeding of his family. His situation was indeed frightening, but Coelho gave life to the driver as a dedicated, imaginative soul- and someone with such character must never fear anything, including the unexplained. After all, it will give them a stress-free life and a sense of tranquility, since they prefer to stay in their comfort zone and risk nothing. In effect, these people live boring, unsatisfactory lives on behalf of two main fears: the fear of failure and the fear of the unknown. As a matter of fact, the Alchemist believes that the fear of failure can keep one from fulfilling their dream, as stated on page 146, “If a person is living out his Personal Legend, he knows everything he needs to know. There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.” However, it does not see eye to eye about the fear of the unknown, as stated previously. What many people, including the Alchemist, fail to see is that it is impossible to go through life without experiencing a sort of failure and that without at least one fail, success will never arrive to them. Fortunately, there are ways to overcome their fear of failing, such as considering all the positive possible outcomes, acknowledge the worst-case scenario, and creating a Plan B for the boost in confidence and an advance towards their goals. Same can be said for the fear of the unknown, evaluating the positive outcomes and determining the worst-case scenario will give one reassurance that an unfamiliar presence will not be all
