As our society, changes so must our schools, classrooms and our communities that can transform diversity in terms of culture, values, languages etc. How to prepare teachers and their students to adapt in diverse classrooms. First preparing teachers to learn more about their students and where they come from. For example, English language learners (ELL) who are in your classrooms that speak diverse languages that represent different cultures. Many of these students are from Hispanic families and having Hispanic backgrounds, but relate to the same values, foods, languages and so forth. When teachers have a strong communication between students and their parents that makes their job easier. This great book tells and shows society that it is ok to be different, but love who you are. The book “Shades of Black” was short and showed pictures of children that relate to diversity in the African American communities. The book showed pictures of food to connect to all black skin tones and how people should celebrate life and embrace it.
In conclusion, I would use “Shade of Black” it highlights the many shades of black, it describes your hair, skin tone, and eye color etc. This book to me describes multicultural lesson that help children feel good about themselves and help build their self-esteem. I would use this book in my classroom to help children build social skills and gain ways of communicating through discussion. This will help children explore other cultures within the classroom.
