I read the book Shackled by Tom Leveen. This particular novel was made up of two hundred and ten pages. This book was about a girl named Pelly, who when she was eight, went through a traumatic abduction at the mall, and her road to recovery. Her friend Tara, was abducted, and Pelly wasn't going to let anyone stop her from finding her friend.
First, we are introduced to Pelly, and the mall incident. Pelly was eight, when her and her friend, Tara, went to the mall together. When Pelly saw a stand selling Popovers, she said she wanted to go and buy one. Tara said she didn't want to go and she wanted Pelly to stay with her, but Pelly went anyway. Pelly, who set out to find Tara, with her crush David, found Tara. Originally, Pelly accused David's uncle of kidnapping Tara, but David told her that his uncle wasn't a weirdo like that. Well, it turns out Pelly was right, because they searched his house, and found Tara. After calling the police, David's uncle was brought to justice. When asked what she wanted to do now that she's been set free, she says she'd like to go back to school. Pelly thinks they'd be great school buddies, but Tara says she wants to go to a different school, and just leaves it at that. While upset and confused, Pelly is asked out by David and they become a couple.
I would rate Shackled an 8/10 for two reasons. First, it was very pulling, once I got to page 2, I really couldn't stop reading until almost the very last page. On the other hand, the conclusion really was disappointing, because Pelly just let Tara slip away again, which I would've never done. David even told her to at least act like she cares about Tara, but Pelly says “I want what she wants.” (201), Pelly also dates David, and with all of his problems, also was a let down. Overall this was a good book and I would recommend it to
