Half past midnight, we are still at grandma's house. From my three year old cousin to my beautiful grandmother, cheery and tireless, everyone's busy celebrating this spiritual and magical night, ‘’ Shabe Yalda.’’

As an Iranian teenager, me and my family always celebrated this special night, Shabe Yalda in Tehran. On the last night of autumn, every year Iranians gather with their loved ones, sharing their remaining fruits from the summer, dancing, drinking and finding ways to pass this night, which they believe is the longest night of the year, in good company. This traditional night has granted me a chance of socializing with people whom I respect and look up to, eat a mouthwatering meal and listen to my father’s soothing and lyrical
