Shabbat Reflection On September 30th I followed the practices of Shabbat by spending the evening at home with my family. The evening started off at 5:15, just as the sun was setting over the horizon. This tradition was a new experience since I have never worked so hard to set up discussing about a loved one. Shabbat felt healthy for my family and I as it brought us closer together. Shabbat was an intriguing experience because the preparation required the involvement of my entire family, the dinner and thoughtfulness of my great grandfather Hoy was interesting to learn about, and the gratification of our families closeness after dinner. Preparing for Shabbat required everyone in the family to be involved by preparing the evening for an everlasting …show more content…
We all read something of our own choice; I read my comics. Jewish people believed that reading academic books would involve labor and Shabbat is a day of rest. At this time we did not talk as much, but we all enjoyed each others presence. Time passed and we decided to play a board games. My sister and I have not laughed with each other in a long time, but as we played scrabble we seemed to form a lovable connection. Our dog was getting restless, so we took him for a walk outside. It was dangerous because we did not use lights. My sister was not into the idea of walking, but she did it anyway even though you do not have during shabbat. In Jewish Shabbat tradition, exercise was optional because you should only have to do it if you enjoyed it. The night grew longer and I went to bed as part of resting during shabbat. Sleeping was the most delightful time of rest in shabbat because I felt absolute harmony. Shabbat was a cutting-edge experience for me because the preparation required the involvement of my entire family, the dinner and thoughtfulness of my Great Grandfather Hoy was interesting to learn about, and the gratification of our families resting after dinner. This experience was healthy for me by brining me closer to my family. If I had to do it again, I would talk more about how we can become closer together always and not just during Shabbat. My involvement in Shabbat will live

In twenty years, as a board member of a scholarship selection committee, I would award the 17-year-old me a scholarship not because I am simply answering the prompt in my favor, but because I know that the 17-year-old me's dream is to go to college to gain a higher education and has made learning a high priority since elementary school. The 17-year-old me is determined, hard-working, and understands the struggle of having little money, so I would know that the scholarship would not go to waste; she would use it so that her parents can ease their worry about how she is going to go to college, since they are not able to make any contributions. While at camp there were activities going on all the time such as a sports game, hiking, cards, swimming, or cooking during the day and something going on every night like campfires, movies, singing camp songs, or storytelling.…

College Writing And Reading For The Incoming Freshman The transition between High School and University writing can be challenging to the ill-prepared student. In high school we might have gotten great feedback from teachers about our work: “great job”, “very good” etc, but in college our professors might comment differently most likely because they are searching for something different in college writing. Most often because professors expect a different style of writing than that of a high school class, such as a more developed opinion on the subject rather than a summary of what you researched. The most significant differences are visible in structure, research, argument, and format. In college writing, we move away from the standard…
