Sgt. Mares is learning departmental policies and procedures from a supervisor’s point of view. He is knowledgeable of city and departmental policies and promotes the mission and values of the department with his shift. He provides roll call training and debriefs the shifts in order to remain in accordance with policy and procedures.Sgt. Mares always conducts himself in a professional manner and expects the same from his shift. Sgt. Mares maintains his physical fitness which adds to a professional appearance and sets the example for others. He treats others with dignity and respect. He understands the importance of community policing and the role that officers play in the partnership with the community. Sgt. Mares sets the best example for the department. What he lacks in experience he makes up in independent study, initiative, and sound judgment. He holds the officers accountable at the same time recognizes achievements. He was recognized by his peers as Supervisor of year for the Brownwood Municipal Police Officer Association.
He has been assigned to and is leading the Tactical Team towards an operational level.
He will need to monitor the amount of time officers spend after shifts completing reports and if there are ways to improve efficiency.
Sgt. Mares is a good mentor and encourages teamwork. Sgt. Mares manages the shift and identifies resources available. With more experience he will better be able to identify the capabilities of CID and when they are needed. Sgt. Mares effectively handles the call volume and is learning how to adjust schedules to accommodate training.
