Mansa Musa was one of the most wealthy leaders in all the world with over 600 billion dollars in gold, with great power over all his citizens, and to extend this he went on his hajj to show people how rich and powerful he was. Mansa Musa did not go on his hajj just for religious reasons he also went on the hajj to show the people of Africa how wealthy and powerful he was. One of the documents that show that why he didn't just go for religious reasons is document A, where it shows all the supplies he brought on his trip. It shows that he brought over 24,000 pounds of gold for alms giving, gifts, salaries, and supplies, even though he would have used the gold for these purposes, he would have probably only have used almost half of the gold for those purposes. Instead he would use it to give out to all the citizens of egypt and other towns and villages, and this is true because he didn't have any other remaining gold and if it was a religious journey he wouldn't bring 24,000 pound of gold to give out to all the people and stop his religious journey.…

At the start of the Russian Revolution, the Russian military was in an active engagement with the German army, with an estimated 6,900,000 men on the front and another 2,170,000 men in the rear. There was no ignoring the revolution for a military as large as the Russian military even those at the front fighting the Germans. How did the military contribute or respond to the events of February 1917? What began as worker demonstrations against rumors of a bread shortage erupted into a revolution when troops sent to face the crowds were ordered to shoot at the demonstrators refused to obey the order to fire upon the demonstrators, thus mutinying and joining the demonstrators.…

Although the book is admittedly brief, it makes its points concisely and effectively without being overly wordy or rambling. Much of the ideology that The Warrior Ethos discusses is familiar to Marines as it runs parallel to a large majority of training that Marines encountered throughout boot camp with emphasis put on honor and commitment to a cause, as well as courage in the face of hardships and death. In reading this book many Marines will be familiar with the warrior ethos and what it entails, although perhaps some of the historical context of such an ethos may not be common knowledge to many individuals. In exploring the background of this ethos and explaining how it has been used by many armies for centuries, the reader can better understand how this ethos can be applied to real-life and see examples in which this ethos was implemented and lived-out day-to-day by warriors throughout history. The short stories of historical figures such as King Leonidas and Alexander the Great can also provide some inspiration and motivation for young Marines looking for role models or characters on which to model themselves, and may even drive some Marines to conduct their own further research into the history of warriors and warfare.…

Over the last 1.5 years, the 4th Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) has undergone significant change. Following a nine month deployment to Afghanistan, the Brigade appears to be overcome by stress, fatigue, leadership, and ethics issues. While many might categorize these as normal post deployment occurrences, they appear to run much deeper. The events of the previous deployment coupled with the death of the Brigade Commander, Brigade Sergeant Major and a Battalion Commander appear to be the critical events that triggered the downward slide of the Brigade.…
