Throughout the movie Sankofa it becomes very evident very quickly how prejudice and biased the whites are, even before you witness the whole slavery aspect of the film. Sankofa shows a brutal truth about The Caribbean’s past that many people, especially Caucasians, don’t like to mention or think about. Through my analysis I will look further into how the film and readings from the class coordinate with one another, as well as the whole process of Creolization for the Africans and the Americans. For administrators in the criminal justice system that refuse to adapt to the open system of relying on help from outside agencies and the public, this condition of not meeting goals because of budget cuts will continue to worsen. However, those that learn to adapt and respond well from help will have a much brighter future. For example, when budget cuts arise, the first programs to receive large cuts are crime prevention programs so crime fighting programs will not have to be cut (Cronkhite, 2013). A more productive decision would be to use “crime prevention approaches as leverage in making the best use of personnel” because just a small crime prevention staff could prevent acts that would cost much more (Cronkhite, 2013, p. 204).…
This year I spoke with Officer Brookins about working on being a bit more compassionate and less abrupt with citizens. She agreed that she needed to work on that. I have noticed that she has taken more time with citizens and tries to see their side. Terry is good at taking constructive criticism and working on the issue instead of getting defensive. During every public speaking opportunity related to risk management in which I engage, whether to NCOs, command staff, or representatives from the Office of the Attorney General, I routinely ask the rhetorical question: “Are we still bound by the consent decree?” Most division members, especially command staff, ostensibly know the answer is yes, but don’t understand why or to what degree. The answer lies within the Law Enforcement Professional Standards Act of 2009 (P.L. 2009 Chapter 121) (The Act). Furthermore, rules and procedures formalize a department and make sure that the officer’s conduct stays consistent and appropriate. Although police officers must strive to abide by all the rules and regulations, it does not always happen that way. Even the most formalized of agencies face discrepancies between their formal policies and informal practices. Departments can have problems with officers that do not abide by implemented policies or simply don’t understand them. Have you ever wanted something so bad that there became a burning passion growing inside you to gain that one thing? Olaudah Equiano is an excellent example of this freedom was his motivation, and he was not going to break until he tasted that sweet taste of accomplishing his goal. Equiano sets an excellent example of this in his life, the mentality and physical toughness to bend but not completely break. That is a quality that we can use in our own personal walk though this life.
