Having an affair with someone when you know that person is married is wrong, especially if you’re messing up your relationship.. Well, in the short story “Sexy” from Jhumpa Lahiri’s Interpreter of Maladies, Miranda was in a beauty store and met a married guy named Dev. Dev’s wife is leaving for India, so Miranda doesn’t really care for him being married. Dev starts to have an affair with Miranda while his wife is gone. The theme of the short story is infidelity is immoral because she knows that Dev is married and she is going to end up ruining Dev’s relationship with his wife and she knows it's wrong to be with a married man but she doesn’t care.

They say they cheat on them because they don’t feel like they’re there for them when needed and the person they were cheating with was.
