Sexually Transmitted Infection

Sexually Transmitted Infections are widespread across college campuses, yet students often do not receive proper testing nor are they aware of the services offered by the University of Texas. The Student Health Advisory Committee at UT this semester has a subcommittee to bring awareness to students concerning STI and testing services. The subcommittee in conjunction with the UHS launched a campaign called “Get Yourself Tested” and set up tabling throughout the month of April. The tabling reached out to students by providing free condoms, information on STI testing at UHS, in addition to an option to schedule an appointment for testing. The other main component of the subcommittees plan was to create an informative slide show presented by members at various student organizations. The public health effect of the STI subcommittee’s work reaches out and educates the student population of UT. The first task was creating posters for STI awareness and getting them approved by UHS. An informational slide show designed over a course of a few weeks includes things such as: frequently asked questions about STI testing at UHS and general information over STIs. The presentations done only lasted ten minutes and the presenter was available to hand out free condoms and answer any concerns or questions regarding STI testing at UHS as long as it was not medical related. Many student organizations across UT have been and many more are going to be educated on STI testing and are going to be made aware of how potentially threatening they are. Only a few members agreed to volunteer their time to present to organizations, however, over a few weeks more people signed up and agreed to present to a student
