“Children 's television shows frequently portray girls as sexualized by wearing tight, revealing clothing (Lacroix, 2004), an especially concerning trend given that children between the ages of 2 and 11 years old watch an average of 24 hrs of television a week (Turrill, 2013).” (Stone/Brown/Jewell) As well as the author did a study to see if children endorse specific traits for someone who is sexual and someone who is not. For the traits it was found that girls who were very athletic, very smart, and very nice were not considered to be sexualized as much as a girl who was popular. It was actually assumed that a girl who had all those traits was not sexualized as much as others. The author did a second study that tested to see if children who watched media with stronger sexual content would endorse the sexualization of females more. This show is on cartoon network and it is about a young sensitive boy who lives with his three wacky female gaurdians. Though this show focus’s on things such as a world based on gems it also focuses a lot on acceptance of a person whoever it is. All three of his female gaurdians break normal females gender roles such as being a warrior, not focusing on appearances, and being of ethnic race, but also being very proper. There are also main themes such as accepting gay couples, being who you want to be, and not focusing on what society thinks. I have been following up with this showing because it is a great example of teaching kids acceptance as well as appropriate for all age groups to watch. The only worry that I would have with doing this show is choosing another show that shows at the same time on pbs because this show airs around 5:30 pm in the evening. Another concern is that most of the pbs shows focus more on a younger age group then what is shown on Cartoon Network and Disney Channel. With that in mind it seems like it might be wiser to focus on a specifc time period such as around the age of classic cartoons i.e. The Jetsons, The Flinstones, Looney Tunes, etc. There have been many times in those shows where
