She went over diseases and the ways they could be spread. Some of the things she discussed I had no idea were even a common thing. The importance of sexual education is pushed away into a back corner and no one bothers to acknowledge it. Before 1998, 10 states required that sexuality education programs teach abstinence and did not require the inclusion of information about contraception (Berne L). In the United States, instruction about sexuality varies widely because decisions about curriculum are usually determined locally. In the 1990s, sexuality education in the United States took a behavioral focus with two distinctive and widely separated approaches. The first, abstinence-until-marriage, limits instruction to why young people should not have sex until they are married. The second, balanced and realistic sexuality education, encourages students to postpone sex until they are older and to practice safer sex when they become sexually active (Berne L). These facts help prove my personal point as to why the absolute seriousness of sexual activity needs to be taught instead of constantly laughed off. In France the students are required to take a sexual education course and the parents can not withdraw them from it. This may cause arguments because some parents feel that it is necessary for any sexual questions to be answered at home. Yet, because of religion barriers or just the fact of parents not wanting to discuss it with their little girls or boy growing up into intelligent young adults, children are not taught. So a class becoming a part of the curriculum is exactly what high school students need. Schools try to adapt so that they may help their students get through school with a healthy mind and body. They do this by gathering into groups and constructing programs that organizations put together to help educate the students further.
