Ellen was a sitcom about single girl’s life in the city. For the beginning of the sitcom nothing about her sexuality was questioned, but during the fourth season of the show the theme song was accompanied by a clip of her coming out of the closet, literally. She was also featured on the cover of Time Magazine with the caption “I’m Gay. After coming out on television many people were aggravated and views dropped increasingly fast. Advertisers were no longer wanting to support this tv show, and the show was canceled. Today Ellen is an icon with a talk show with millions of views. Though the show was unsuccessful, this sitcom paved the way for lesbians/gays to be a part of television.
